I am a legal resident in the US and paid for a plane ticket for my mother (who lives in South Africa) to come visit me. Can this gift be deducted from my taxed and if so, where do I deduct it? I am using Turbotax Deluxe to do my taxes. Also, do I then deduct it only on the federal taxes. I live in Illinois.

"Gifts" are not deductible, unless you give them to a recognized charity.

"Mom" is not a recognized charity, ergo, no deduction.
