Back Taxes

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PennsylvaniaI became disabled and layed off between 2001 and 2002. They say I owe lots of money and then when I went to the IRS dept. and had a rep. do my taxes they ended uop totaling less than $2000. Shortly after I received a letter from the IRS stating I owed around $11,000 for the two tears because the filings were 3 months late. I have an IRS hold because I'm a full-time student again and we make less money. I need help so that my wife and I can get this mess behind us and improve our credit so we can move out of this shack and qualify for a home loan. We need help with this.

How long is the hold? When did the IRS assess the tax? The options, short of bankrupcty are: 1) Get a sustained hold on the account for a year or two to allow you to get into a position to make payments (2) Begin making monthly payments to pay it off or (3) Make an Offer in Compromise to settle the liability for less than is owed.

It is advisable to have someone other than the IRS look at it and see if the amount they say you owe is correct.
