back taxes not filed or paid in fullI live in Ohio; I have not completed my federal and/or state taxes for the past 5 or 6 years. I was forced into self-employment for about 2 1/2 years and paid estimated taxes and even sent in for extensions to file, but they have since expired. After going back to full employment, my taxes have been deducted from paychecks, but i still have not completed the necessary paperwork. In all, I might owe a small amount of underpaid taxes, but I'm concerned about getting the fines and interest behind me. Where (or with who) do I begin to get my life back into order? Thanks in advance for any advice you give. |

| Since you made estimated payments, you're probably in good shape. Any interest or penalties are based on the amount of taxes you owe. If you get a refund, there are no interest or penalties. If you owe $100, the interest & penalties are about $5. Gather all your records and visit a tax preparer. Do it now while they're not very busy.
