benefit of filing single vs joint

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My wife and I got married on June 2008. Is it more beneficial for us to file our 2008 returns separately or joint, based on current tax structure?

That is completely dependant on your financial circumstances. My wife and I filed separately as it made a ton of difference on our state (Ohio) returns. It didn't amount to a fast food meal's worth of difference on the federal return.

Run the numbers both ways.
