building addition to home for rental income...tax advantages ?

What is the name of your state? MA

Hi All

'm getting my house rezoned to a 2 family and adding a legal rental unit.
As this extra unit is specifically for income purposes I'm wondering if I can write off some of the costs of costruction.

If your intent is to make a profit, then you can depreciate the costs of construction over 27.5 years.
