    Question California Tax Amnesty letter

    What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? California
    I received a Tax Amnesty letter for the Tax years 1986/87 asking for 5000 in taxes owed, I dont have records going back that far and my employer from back then says they are only required to keep payroll records 10 yrs. How am I supposed to defend myself against the Franchise Tax Board?

    Hire an Enrolled Agent or an Attorney. Do not attempt to fight the Franchise Tax Board by yourself.

    It will be well worth whatever it costs.

    If you still live in CA, contact your representatives & write Arnold to complain about how unfair it is to reopen a tax return you filed 20 years ago. This is happening to thousands of people.
