What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania.
Can you claim insurance payments that you make through payroll on your taxes as itemized deductions? Some one told me you could. We paid almost $7200.00 for insurance this past year. Also what about child support payments? Can we claim that as well? Please advise and thanks!

It depends.

Where the insurance payments a BEFORE tax deduction, or an AFTER tax deduction? There is the obvious answer - ask your employer that question. Or, you can figure it out by looking at the W2.

Say that you know that you are paid $50,000 and you paid 10K in insurance. This is assuming there isn't a deduction for 401k, simples, etc. Now, if your "taxable" income is $40,000, then your insurance premium was taken out "before" tax - you are only being taxed for the amount left after the insurance has been paid. If your taxable income is $50,000, then the insurance premium would be "after" tax.

Still, your best bet is to ASK your employer. they would know the answer.
