What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas

As part of an car accident (which was not my fault), there were attorney fees that were taken out of the final settlement. Are these legal fees a valid deduction?

Thank you once again.

The settlement was for the car accident which included medical bills. After everything was settled the remaining amount of the funds were subject to a 25% attorney fee. In other words, the offenders insurance company paid me $15000 to cover all expenses and after everything had been paid off, there was about $5000 left which was subject to the 25% attorney fee. Is the $1250 paid to the attorney a valid deduction?
