Car TitleWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MD I am in the military and purchased a vehicle from missouri in 2001. I recently traded the vehicle in on a new vehicle. The dealership has now called me threatening me about the title. Saying I owe $1000 for sales tax on the 2001 vehicle because it was never titled. The dealership stated they have already sold the vehicle and the new purchaser has sold the vehicle again. I have called the different states to which I have lived and had the vehicle registered, but nobody seems to have a title. Any suggestions? thanks |

| What state says you owe tax? MD? Did you register, title, or reside in Maryland? Did you pay tax on the purchase in Missouri? How is it the dealer managed to sell an untitled car? That sounds bizarre. Did you just have the signed off title that was never redone in your name?

| At the time, I was stationed in Missouri when I purchased it. I went from there to Hawaii and now Maryland. I registered the vehicle in Michigan, my home of record. At the time of trade in, I didnt have the title on me, the dealership stated they would get it. Did I pay taxes? I assume that I did, it was new when I purchased it from the dealership in Missouri. I do not remember to tell the truth. thanks for quick response |
