What is the name of your state? KS

What happens if 2 people claim the same child on separate taxes????

Dad got custody of 15 year old. Dad lives out of town so decided it would be best if 15 year old stayed in town(same school etc.) with 28 year old sister. 15 year old stayed with sis from Sep 03 until Nov. 04. Mother did not financially help/support 15 year old at all. In January, sis filed taxes and claimed 15 year old, turns out so did the mother. 15 year old lived with sis for 10 months out of the year and provided 95% of financial support for 15 year old (with the exception of help from dad). My question is: "What is going to happen now?" considering mother fraudulently claimed 15 year old???? Hope not too confusing...thanks in advance.....

If sis filed electronically and it was rejected, she'll have to file on paper, supplying documentation about the support and where the child lived.

The IRS will sort it out and go after the mom.
