college student - what state to file in?

Florida / Massachusetts

Hi, I go to college in FL and my parents pay my tuition / housing and claim me as a dependant in MA. They live in MA where I grew up. I stay in FL year round and earned about $11,000 in FL in 2007. I am not sure if I am a FL or MA resident. Where do I file state taxes? In MA, FL or both? Thanks!

In which state do you claim residency? Driver's license, voter's registration?

Luckily Florida doesn't have a state income tax.

Those two things make you a resident of MA, mostly because you are in college. So you are going to have to file an MA state income tax return.

If you want to be considered to be a FL resident in the future, change those things.
