What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SC Edgefield County

I began building a house in 1993. On several occasions building material went missing;we decided after a 40,00 dollar loss we had to move in while building to avoid bankrupsy. In the mean time we lost our home to forclosure and our house that we were building had to become our residency. We finished what we vould and rushed to get our belongings onto the property. Without the home being finished the county would nt issue a certificaste of occupancy. Nowseveral years later the county has decided that they want back taxes. We might not be able to pay them. Could we lose our home again? We have nowhere else to go. We've paid our property tax on the land but not the house. The house is not finished yet. The notice arrived on Friday evening and im so anxiousI cant sleep. Any help would be great. Ill provide whatever you need. If anyone can help.

If you are living in it, you are claiming it is habitable. Why would you not be obligated to taxes if you were living in the home?

but with that, you can argue there was no C of O so therefore, it is not considered to be a completed home and as such, taxable as such. They should have acted to evict you long ago and bringing up this argument is likely to get you evicted from the home until a C of O is issued...

and since they will be totally peeved, I would expect them to be so picky on the building that getting that C of O will likely be a battle in itself.
