If the us citizen is sending money overseas to support his Filipino girlfriend, can he take any deduction related to it? I don't think she can be any type of dependent, it's not a donation either, so nothing can be deducted, am I right? My friend said HR Block said that he can and asked him to send over his girlfriend's passport information. Just to confirm.

btw, they are not married, just girlfriend who is nonresident and who lives in Philippines.

Thank you!

Has he actually told HRB the facts, as they are?

I don't know what exactly was their conversation, but I suspect that there was some misunderstanding. They might mistaken that they are married. I think my conclusion is correct, but don't want to take a chance misleading my friend.

How does one make a mistake regarding being married or not??? And no, he can't under any circumstances.
