education tax creditWhat is the name of your state? califoria right now i am a full time student in college and i also work part time. i know there are tax credits for students but i dont know if i am eligible to claim them. one reason i think i wont qualifie is that i do not pay any tuition because of scholarships and grants from the school. also i am also claimed as a dependant on my mothers taxes. if i do not qualifie for any of the education tax credits is there any other way to get a refund because i am still a full time student?? |

| You should file a return on your part time job, the 1040EZ is pretty simple to do, just remember to mark yes when it ask if you can be claimed on someone elses return, this means you can't claim yourself as an exemption. Depending on your gross wages and withholdings, you may or may not get a refund. Because you are claimed as a dependent on your parents return, you won't be able to file for the education credits, but your parents can if they qualify. |

| No they can't -- if tuition & fees are covered by grants or scholarships there are no "eligible education expenses" on which to base education credits.
