Equipment Tax Write Off For Studenti am a resident of vermont, but go to school and work in massachusetts. i am a student at northeastern university in boston, ma and have a question on a tax write off on equipment i need to do work with outside of the office for work. -i am a student, and do not claim myself on income taxes since my parents still receive considerable benefits in taxes from me. -i am an intern (temp employee) -work consists of camera shoots and non-linear editing (video editing) -to be more effecient and to better myself at my jobs i need to have an editing system of my own -i have talked to others at my job that have bought computers and have written them off for the same reason I am looking to purchase this for a write off -other employees have written a %, off 70-80 depending on how much they intend to use it for personal reasons to avoid audits -since i am not a premanent employee and switch internships every 6-12 months, but do the same kind of work at these companies how am I eligible to write this off -i know there is tax law that states a write off to be deducted over a 5 year period, but that is for items over $25,000 -the system i am looking to put together will be well under $6,000 -since i am still a student, and cannot write items off under education because i do not claim myself, how am i to go at this? |

| You can't, but your parents could foot the bill then deduct the expense Under educational expenses since they can prove a need based on your internship. Have them contact their tax attorney. |
