Estate Tax returnWhat is the name of your state? Pennsylvania. How do you close out an estate when you don't have to file form 1041? My mother had less than $600 of income in 2002 when she passed away so I don't have to file the 1041. However, the IRS issued a EIN to her estate. Since they issued the EIN I expect they will be sending me a letter if they don't receive any paperwork from me in regards to the estate. What should I send them to let them know about this? |

| Most IRS workers are not capable of reading a letter. It will be easiest to just fill out the 1041 and show less than $600 AGI, with $0 tax due. Shouldn't take you any longer than writing the letter......

| If you do choose to write the letter, wait until the IRS notifies you (they may not), and then answer them with a simple note informing them of her income. |
