| | Everyone doesn't need to file an Income tax return do they? If I was a citizen of America and I lived in los angeles and had a job at mc-donalds, would I have to file annual federal and state income tax returns? Or would the tax just be deducted from my wages each week? And is there a certain amount of money that you can earn from your job before you must file income tax returns? |

| | | I believe if the single employee earned less than $8,750., then s/he doesn't have to file for 2007 (but will want to in order to get the stimulus check or refund or Earned Income Credit). |

| | | Instructions for the 1040 tax form
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040.pdf
Read pages 7 and 8 for minimum incomes. But, as mentioned, if you are making that little, then you are eligible for EIC and stimulus checks and will likely get money back. |

| | | So would mc-donalds provide me with the 1040 tax form or would I have to get it myself? |

| | | You can get tax forms at most (if not all) post offices for free. Or you can get them online now at the irs website I think. McDonald's won't provide one.

| | | **************...and if you search each states website, they'll have links to their state tax forms (and instructions) as well (in CA it's Welcome to the State of California).
You fill out the federal forms first, and then the state.
If your parents are US citizens and have filed in prior years claiming you as an exemption, make sure you coordinate the exemption with them this year.

| | | If you have federal withholding taken out of your check, and your income level says that you don't owe taxes, you need to file a tax return in order to receive your refund.
Chances are you would be eligible to file a 1040EZ. And yes, they are easy. The California return is probably harder. If you check out the newspapers and listen to advertisements, there are places that offer FREE tax preparation usually starting the end of January. VITA covers it. Sometimes AARP does. A person doesn't have to pay to get a tax return done unless they are very complicated.

| | | If you earned more than $3,000 it will be to your advantage to file for the federal and state tax return, because with your federal return you can also qualify for the stimulus payment of $300-$600. Any local accountant, CPA or tax preparer can help you do this. |
