Fed. Income Taxes in BankruptcyQuestion from Arizona... I am considering bankruptcy. Under what circumstances will the IRS forgive...or how many years back will the IRS go to collect unpaid income taxes? Can past income taxes be discharged in bankruptcy? Is there a statute of limitations for collection? Thanks, JWJ |

| The statute of limitations for collection is 10 years from assessment of tax. Taxes can be forgiven in BK, but it's rare. You'd need an attorney to help you file & argue the motion.
