It depends whether you owe money or are due a refund. If you owe money, the sooner you take care of it the better, because you will also owe interest and penalties.

If due a refund, you have 3 years from the normal tax filing due date to file, and will get the refund plus interest. But if you owe money, they have longer than that to come after you.

I owed $800 from 2004 but It appears the tax man removed that
amount from y 2006 return.

I don’t believe I owe any for 2005 though, guess I should be certain before filing.
