I met a friend overseas when I was traveling who comes from a very wealthy family. As I was having some difficulties at the time, and he was very nice he would give me money as a gift to pay my bills(debt) every month. (i.e. $3000 a month) In all he probably helped me with about 25-30k over many month\'s.
Do I need to file any form with the irs that I received this money? The thing I worry about is he has moved away and I can\'t contatc him now. I have no proof that he gave this money to me and if I get audited how can I prove it was a gift and not income earned (didn\'t have job).
Thank you for any help!!
