What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? LA

My child receives a SSI check because his father passed away.

I just received this form, and I am confused. The letter comes across as the benefits were received FOR me.

I didnt see any option for these benefits paid for a child.

My childs name is in Box 1

in box 7 it has
my name FOR
childs name.

DO I have to claim this on my joint return?

No, you do NOT have to claim that income on your joint return. If you will look closely, you will see that your child's SS number appears on the document, not yours.

Unless your child has other income, your child doesn't need to file a tax return to claim the income either.

Thank you very much. I have been googling and just couldnt find an answer.

So when my child is 16 and gets a Part time job then he has to claim this as income and pay the taxes on it?

If so how much so I with hold in a special account to cover these expenses at the end of the year?

I am looking for a rough %age. 5% or 10%?
