Friend baought a used vehicle and did not put the correct amount that was paid for.

What is the name of your state? NY A friend bought a used vehicle and on the actual purchase price it was not correct, but he did not know that because it was a gift. The wife purchased the car and all he had to do was go and pay the balance, which he thought was the true purchase price (wife did not want him to know the actual price since it was a gift). He went to DMV and gave the clerk the paid in full receipt that stated the lesser amount since that was only the balance and again he did not know this since it was a gift. Then at the DMV the clerk said that the receipt of the purchase price did not look right and almost did not give him the license and registration, but they did give him the license and registration. On the form the manager said to put audit on the form and the freind was wondering why there was such a stink for a simple registration. He in turn told the wif of the situation at the DMV and she proceeded to tell him look I did not want you to know how much the car was really since it was a gift. My friend freaked out and went back to the DMV the next moring right away and proceeded to tell the lady at the front what happened. The lady said just leave it alone because it was already processed (with out even looking on any computer) and if anything does happen they will just tell you to pay the balance. He is still woried because he does not want anything to happen to him legally or to pay a fine for not showing the actual purchase price. Should he worry at all should he do something else or should he just wait?
