Head of Household filing

Virginia
I am trying to find out if I can file HOH for last year. A relative (cousin) lived with me all of last year, and I supported 100% of the household (plus, had many of my things stolen by him upon leaving, but that's another story). I am unsure of the meaning of "direct ancestor" in claiming...would this count? What kind of documenting proof should be provided? thank you very much,

Karen

I order to file head of household, you must have a qualifying CHILD. Unless your cousin was a minor, you can't file head of household.

And further, a cousin is not a QC unless placed by an agency.

Oh sorry,
I thought in the IRS publication related to this (501?) it referred to either a qualifying child or a qualifying relative. There were 4 criteria for a "qualifying relative" (different from the "qualifying child" criteria) and this is what i was referring to.

You may claim someone who meets "qualifying relative" criteria as a dependent, but NOT for the HOH filing status.
