What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Federal

Say a person was a sworn police officer. They have "collateral" duty as a member of the mounted patrol. They train while on duty once a month and have a two week class (where they are paid) once a year to maintain their skills. Then at events and for crowd control and the like they are mounted officers.

While their regular units are to give them the time to do these things as best as possible, there is a good amount of overtime related to the mounted duties.

What expenses would be deductible? Where would you deduct it?

(Special horse patrol equipment? [Such as a longer baton etc.] Mileage to the varying venues? Horse trailer? Depreciation on the horse? Vet bills? Feed?)

Are you saying that the officer owns his/her own horse that is used for duty, and that the officer is fully responsible for the costs of the horse, with no reimbursement from the police force or city government?

Yes. Also, the Mounted Patrol Unit is an arm of the sheriff's department and does not have 501(c)(3) status.
I would honestly want to know more.

If he is paid for the mounted duty, then the cost/expenses of the horse is definitely an unreimbursed employee expense to at least some extent. The question is to what extent.

Whatever amount would be deducted would be deducted on form 2106 IMO.
