i paid my ex's husbands back taxes

in 1990-1991 i was married to my ex husband and we divorce in 1994, to make a long story short i paid the back taxes owed in 2003 wich was $6,900.to keep me from going to jail, my ex was getting paid under the table so he was not using his social sercurity number and still doesn't b/c he owes more then that. in my mind i feel i only owed half of the $6,900. can i sue my ex husband for half of this b/c he doesn't think i can?

*** Of course, you can sue him... after all, almost anyone can sue almost anyone else over almost anything.
However, it is unlikely that you would be successful in your suit. The likely problem as I see it is that you (presumably) signed the joint tax forms. If true, that would mean that you have what is called 'unclean hands'. The court will not help you to enforce what in essence was an illegal act.
