Litigation Award Compensation

What is the name of your state? Washington

I've been reading lately about Pan Am 103 and the Lybian government paying compensation to the victims' families. I know the lawyers will get a cut of the award. Will the families who receive compensation from this be required to pay income taxes on their share?
