What is the name of your state? maine
I want to marry a man that owes some back taxs to the irs. i want to find out if we are married will i be held responsible for his debt. or how will it all affect us? they already got some money from him and took his property he owned years ago. these taxs are due from many years ago he is retired now and gets social security and i am on disability do you know if we are married how it would affect our social security and disability? thanks

Yes, its going to have some effect on you. You will have to keep your financial lives 100% separate. No joint property, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. In addition its going to make things a little more complicated for you, tax-wise. You won't be held responsible for the debt, but any jointly owned assets would be "fair game" for seizure.
