What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado
I am about to get married. My soon to be husband owes a considerable amount of money to the irs. Once we are married am I going to be liable for his back taxes? If so will the IRS take my tax return to pay off his taxes? Any help is appreciated?

Thanks

If you file a joint return, make sure that you file an "injured spouse" form. That allows the IRS to determine which portion of a refund belongs to which taxpayer.

Another way around it is to set it up so that you don't receive a refund.
