| Mortgage Interest & Divorce What is the name of your state? New York
My divorce became final on Dec 1, 2003. When we were married, we added my name to my wifes bank accounts and used them for our marital debts. When the separation & divorce happened, she simply removed my name from the accounts and continued to use them.
The FCU uses the same account number for everything from savings account to loans, so, even though I refinanced the house in my name only, the mortgage interest notice from the FCU came only in her name referencing the "joint" account number.
I assumed she would claim the interest and there would be little I could do about it, but she has decided to use the standard deduction.
My questions is, can I claim the interest paid while we were married?? And yes, the mortgage was paid by me ... |
