Move to a different state

What is the name of your state? Washington

Hi: I recently moved from Louisiana to Washington. I kept my job at the company in Louisiana (I work remotely).

Besides changing my information with my employer, is there anything else I need to do with them regarding federal/state taxes taken from my payroll?

Thanks for the info. So the HR staff only needs to deduct federal taxes, correct?

I'm not a payroll expert but the little i know is that here in WA there are no State income withholdings and I don't know of any local jurisdictions that have payroll withholdings, So the only required payroll deductions for residents would be the federal W/H and FICA (OASDI & Medicare). There are both State and federal unemployment taxes , although I'm not sure if that is a empolyee or employer paid tax. You may have also some elective deducts but that's by the individual and employer. HTH

Federal and State UC are employer taxes.

Be sure you keep your pay stubs so you can prove how much you earned prior to moving. That amount is subject to LA taxes. Don't assume your employer will get the amount of LA wages correct -- payroll may take a while to process your change in residence & may report the entire year's wages as "LA source". You'll fix this problem on your LA return.

Be sure you re-register your cars promptly & get a new driver's license & register to vote ASAP. This will prove you changed residence to WA, should LA demand proof.
