Nanny deductions

Texas? My wife is a nanny for a family with three little ones. My wife goes to their house in the morning, but the kiddos spend most of the day at our house. Transportation and fuel is provided. Can anybody help me with a list of possible deductions for a nanny?

Is your wife paid on a 1099 or W2? Does your wife have any actual out of pocket costs that are not reimbursed by her employer?

Spending time at your house doesn't automatically confer any deductions....particularly if that's simply a personal choice that your wife is making that the employer happens to allow.

Paid by W2
Out of pocket expenses:
Food, cleaning supplies, toys, books, DVDs, crafts, school-type supplies....I'm sure there are more.

Any expenses would be unreimbursed employment expenses and would have to be claimed on schedule A. She can only deduct the amount that is in excess of 2% of your combined gross income. If you don't file a schedule A then you would not be able to deduct anything.

However....I can't imagine cleaning supplies being valid, and if you also have children who use the toys, books, DVDs, crafts, school type supplies etc., then that could be questionable as well.
