my husband and I now live in Florida. I am not
yet eligible for Medicare;he receives it. We are not employed
and other than his Medicare, we receive no compensations.

Retirement has nothing to do with it, filing is based on income.

If you are over 65 and married to someone over 65, if your income (not including Social Security) is greater than about $11,000, you may have to file.

Compensation isn't the only type of income.
