New Jersey (NJ) tax audit.

I am being audited by the NJ state for a tax period 2001. I was part resident at that state for 9 months.

The auditor has asked for complete copies of both my State Income Tax & Federal Tax Returns. Since this is a state audit, do I have to provide Federal Tax Return information or just the state ?

Any advice will be appreciated as I cant afford to hire a tax lawyer.

You can't afford not to hire someone. You don't need an attorney. Find an Enrolled Agent who has experience in New Jersey. What you spend on good representation could save you a good deal at audit.
