Old tax billWhat is the name of your state? NJ Great site. Hope you can advise me. Back in 1986, I owned a business. Long story short, I got screwed by a partner and there was some IRS PAYROLL taxes due. I wound up in bankruptcy and the tax was still due. For 2 years, I paid $400.00 a month, but the balance continued to climb! On one of my last sit-downs with an IRS agent, I ran into an older woman that told me she was ready to retire. Due to the fact that I was really struggling at the time, I believe she took pity on me. She told me, in no uncertain terms, that my file "could" be lost if not handled properly. I dropped from sight, and stayed that way for over 10 years. 3 years ago, I began filing taxes again jointly with my new wife. I have gotten nothing other than a joint refund check from the IRS. No notices, nothing. I did not file taxes for approx. 6 years. Now I need a valid passport to leave the country for a while. On the application, it asks for S.S.#. Am I going to bring down the hounds of hell with this application process? After all this time, will they still pursue me? Please help.....I am scared of them....but I need my passport to go to work. Help... |

| The IRS doens't check passport records. BTW, you went back on their radar when you started filing tax returns again! You also need to consider the 6 years you didn't file -- if you have not filed a return, those years are still "open" & the IRS can audit them at any time. See a tax pro for help with this.

ThanksThanks for responding. I intend to follow your advice. Any opinion on the "lost" records? |

| As for the "lost records", I think she was hinting that she wanted to be "greased." No grease, no lost records! I had an IRS agent once say to me,"$1000 to me and all you troubles will go away." Little did he know that I always recorded meetings with the IRS. Directly from his office to his supervisors office I went with the evidence and I personally stuck around and watched security escort the bum out. |

| No, that's not what this was. Thye conversation was more detailed than what i posted here, for simplicity sake. I made it very clear to her that I could not pay her much and she laughed at me. She told me if she was in it for the money, she would not have stayed with the IRS I really do need some real world advice on this.....I am about out of time..... |
