I dabbled in online gambling this past year and ended up winning over 50,000. I deal with a company out of costa rica and really question weather the u.s. government is entitled to their share.
I had all winnings transfered to my bank account and I wonder If I will have to explain to uncle sam where it came from. Bodog says they dont release any sort of records to anyone. I will pay the taxes on these winnings, but obviously, I dont want to.

Where were you when you won this money?

If you are a US citizen, you pay taxes on worldwide income. Where you won it is irrelevant -- Richard Hatch won his $1M outside the US & now gets to pay practically all of it to the IRS in taxes + penallties + interest.

I was in orlando when money was won. Offshore sportsbook sends check or bank transfer whenever requested.
If I had lost money, could I claim that on my taxes?

I seriously doubt that this is a real post; no one wins $50K on internet gambling sites. His account would've been shut down after the first couple of hundred dollars of winning.

This is a real post. Why would anyone waste their time on a board like this? I really won this money and really am worrying about filing my taxes this year. I used 9 different sportsbooks throughout the year and was not shut down once. The reason for the 9 is because of the wager maximums imposed on me by the sportsbooks.
The last time I checked, Only California and Nevada have banned online gambling. There is not a law that I have found that prohibits online gambling in Florida.
My question was in regards to taxes. If you dont have any legit advice, please dont bother to reply with a silly post. Some people do win gambling on sports, obviously

I guess I should. I was just hoping there was a little loophole somewhere I could jump through. I just dont want to raise a red flag on my taxes by claiming a 50k gain from costa rica.

Right.

Gambling is a tax on people who do not understand mathematics.

Internet gambling is a tax on people who do not understand mathematics or computers.
