First, you have a professional look over your return to make sure that an error was not made on your part, that the IRS corrected (like a math error). However, you also should have gotten a letter from the IRS if that is the case.
If you can't find any error, then I recommend contacting the IRS and asking for a tax return transcript for the year in question, to see if the IRS made some glaring error....again, having a tax professional look over it.
You are not supposed to cash a refund check that is significantly more than the amount that is really due to you. Therefore its important to quickly find out exactly where the error occurred.
