Owe State Money For On-line Purchase

New Jersey. Several Years Age I Bought Cigarettes On-line And Now I Have Received A Letter Saying I Owe Them, However They Did Not Indicate How Much. They Request That I Inform Them How Many Cartons I Bought And When An For How Much. If They Have That Information Why Not Just Send Me A Bill ? They Request I Call Them If I Have Any Questions. What Can I Expect If I Call Them And What Is The Best Way To Resolve This ?

Please click on edit and fix your post. Standard capitalization and punctuation are required if you actually want an answer to your question. Thank you.

And, while you are at it, who is "them?" The vendor? The state?

The goofy capitalization is what happens when you post in ALL CAPS. Both would be considered impolite here.

The "They" is the state. NJ does get wind of out of state purchases. You can fess up now voluntarily. They don't have complete records. The federal reports they are scanning only list the dollar amounts and the cigarette tax is levied per pack. Cigars and other tobacco's are a %-age of the dollar amount and you get an explicit bill for those.

Let them bill you. If the amount is incorrect, then you can dispute it. Don't do anything until then.
