property taxWhat is the name of your state? california Can an individual claim property taxes on their tax return if the said property (residential) is solely in there name and does not live there. Other family members have been living at residence for over thirty years. I don't think any type of agreement was made in writing to live at residence, it was all verbal. Family member used there name to get a home for other family members. |

| The owner can write off the property taxes on any number of properties whether they live there or not. (But they can only write off mortgage interest on 2 properties.)
