| I live in mass. I live in one of my ex-husbands homes, i pay all expenses, mortgage, taxes, and utilities. Am I entitled to deduct the taxes on my income taxes or is he. |

Payment of taxesHe is entitled to the deduction. The person, on whom the tax is imposed, gets the deduction. In the case of real estate taxes, that is the owner of the property. Technically, your payments of expenses and taxes are rent income to him, and also deductions to him for the expenses. If you have a home office, or use the house for business, you could deduct the expenses attributable to that portion as rent expense. |
