Setting up a fund raiser accountWhat is the name of your state? oregon we are planning many fund raisers for a friend who needs a bone marrow transplant. she has no medical insurance and has bill collectors after her for unpaid chemo bills. we need to set up an account so people can donate but we're afraid collectors will take the money. how can we bi-pass them from doing this so that all proceeds will go directly to the bone marrow transplant cost? we also want to avoid paying any taxes if possible. thanks for any replies. |

| Put the account in someone else's name & pay the transplant costs directly. If the money's not in her name, collectors can't get it. To avoid paying taxes, you'd have to set up a non-profit group/foundation. You might see if a church or established charity (perhaps at the hospital) could set up a dedicated account for you.
