State withholdingWhat is the name of your state? OK My boyfriend's boss takes out federal, but not state, says he doesn't have to. On 25,000.00 a year this causes my boyfriend to owe a lot to the state at the end of the year. A tax preparer told us that by law the employer has to withhold state along with the federal. Is this true and how does my boyfriend get his boss to comply? |

| I'd ask for employer to "be specific why he doesn't have to deduct state tax for OK..I'd let him know..you keep having to "owe taxes"... Unless the number of dependants being claimed is like 99 on the OK state withholding form .....I've never head of such a thing How many exemptions are being claimed for Ok ? OK state tax deducted from employee's should be reported on the annual W2 end of year for tax filing purposes. like this case The W2 has boxes for State withholding taxes..State wages..and the State I.D. number...CHECK THIS: LOOK AT COPY OF YOUR W2 AND SEE IF IT HAS A STATE ID NUMBER ? If so...indicates employer is registered for state tax filings PLus state taxes are reported during different periods during the year..usually quarterly... the an annual reconciliation is filed Each employer is assigned a state ID number in the state in which their business is registered for tax filing purposes along with a FIN Federal ID Number This employer must have an OK state ID number I'd call the OK state agency and "ask for advice" Not naming the employer..I would just ask for guidance on how to handle this... GOOD LUCK ![]() |
