Subpoena Request

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York State

I just recieved a subpoena to appear at the NYS dept of Taxation and Finance,Special investigations unit., to testify and give evidence under oath.

The letter quotes certain Articles and Sections, and a warning should I choose not to appear. The letter does not ask me to bring anything. Can someone explain what this might be.

I was behind in filing my 2005 &2006 taxes, but have already filed and sent it what i owed. Can this have something to do with it?

I doubt very much that simply being late in filing your taxes would be something that a "special investigations" unit would be interested in at all. They would be interested in bigger fish than you.

They obviously believe you have knowledge regarding a bigger fish.

I've been doing taxes a long time. Where I work, we don't see many actual subpoenas served on a client. When we do, we refer them to a tax attorney with knowledge of criminal matters.

I suggest you find one of those before saying anything to anyone; even if the facts don't directly involve you, only what you know.
