What is the name of your state?CA
Hello. My father wanted to know his tax exposure here in the States.
My father is a resident alien. He owns some property in Mexico he inherited from his father, a citizen of Mexico. Could he make a gift of the sale proceeds to someone here to avoid tax liability? What if he tranfers the money to Mexican citizen in Mexico who then transfers the proceeds as a gift to a citizen here? The sale would exceed the +$10,000 notice requisite. Thanks in advance.

This would be the case if he were a citizen of the U.S. He would still have to pay tax in the U.S. but he would get a credit for the amount of taxes he paid to the Mexican Government.
