Tax Prepaprer Incorrectly Did Taxes

What is the name of your state? Virginia
My tax prepaprer lives in NY, I live in Virginia. She incorrectly double-counted my tax withholding from a sale of tax options by 1200 dollars. in 2006. I received a letter from IRS yesterday stating I owed the 1200 PLUS penalties. IS there any way I could fight this to have my tax preparer pay me back? I KNOW thge IRS doesn't care. I will be paying them immediately. Can I sue my tax preparer or demand my tax prep fee back?

Most preparers will take responsibility for the penalties if they make an error on your tax return. Some may also return your preparation fees. Some may also take responsibility for interest as well. No preparer however, will pay your tax.

However, before you pay anything to the IRS, you need to consult with a local tax pro, who can review your paperwork, to make sure that the IRS isn't the one who made an error. They are not infallible.
