What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL
Trying to find out some info for a friends son. Was hurt in an accident and the community put on a benefit for him. Made $23,600.00, will he need to pay taxes on this??? Or is this some kind of write off??

Thanks for your help.

The donors made non-deductible gifts. The recipient simply received the gifted money, not income. The gifts are not deductible for the donor, and not taxable for the recipient.
