Taxed for city tax when I didn't work in that city!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MI

I'm starting to work on my taxes and I just realized that I paid taxes for a city that I did not work in nor live in. For some reason, I was paying Detroit city taxes. It's only $30, but I don't know why they had me paying that when I never worked in the city.

According to TurboTax, I'm due $7 from Detroit. Huh? Why, I shouldn't have paid anything!

I know it's not a lot of money, but it's the principal of the matter. Any advice on how to get my money back or is it gone for good?

Have you asked payroll why you were withheld for Detroit?

Do you travel into the city for business?

Perhaps a W-2C is in order.

I don't work there any longer. It was a short term contract position. No, I did not travel to the city nor work in it for this company.
