Although our estate attorneys have assurred we have done nothing wrong, the IRS could make some good points in their favor over an issue of foreign residency giving up green card the day before the time limit ran out. This would make the foreign trust subject to taxes should they win their point.
A tax attorney we used to do some tax work charged us an exorberant amount for his services and we are about to enter into litigation concerning this. He has hinted that someone could tip the IRS off to our situation.
Although we have been assurred of our innocence, it would be expensive, troublesome and downright uncomfortable to have to deal with them.
My question is: How much attention do the IRS pay to tips? Especially covert ones.
Thanks in advance for any help.
