What is the name of your state? Mi
My husband and I have not filed taxes in the last five years, I am in a panic expecting the IRS to knock on my door at any minute  . Where do I start? Do I need a lawyer or an accountant or both?

You start by hiring a tax pro to prepare the returns for you. If you were an employee & the IRS hasn't been knocking on your door, chances are you actually had refunds waiting. Any refunds from 2000 or earlier are lost now. If you owe money from those earlier years, the IRS can still collect it.

Once you know if you owe or have refunds coming, you'll know if you need to do anything else.
