What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon

In Sept. of 2006 I moved from Oregon to California. In the year 2006 I worked in both Oregon (jan-sept) and California (oct-dec). When I filed my state taxes for the year 2006 I did not include my income that I made in CA. To day I get a letter in the mail that stats I owe the state of Oregon on that portion of my income. How can this be legal? I was taxed on my California income in California and now I have to pay taxes to Oregon on the same income?

When someone lives and works in two states in a calendar year, they have to file part year tax returns for both states. Oregon doesn't know that you lived in CA from october to december because you probably filed a regular return instead of filing a part year return.

Go see a tax professional ASAP about filing amended returns for CA and OR. Otherwise you are likely to end up getting a similar letter from CA.
