when did I officially move out?

What is the name of your state? LA

I own a two-family house. I bought the house in April 2000, & one side has been rented out the entire time.

I lived in the other side with my significant other (no legal relationship) from April 2000 to January 2003. Then I moved out and my SO stayed (paying a very small amount of rent) till June 2003. During the period of January to June 2003 I spent most weekends at the house and many of my things were still there. He/we moved out in June 2003 and tenants moved in in August 2003.

For tax purposes, I need to define when the half I lived in changed from personal use to rental use. So legally speaking, when did I move out?
